Common Questions

Planning an expedition should feel exciting, not overwhelming. This page compiles the questions we hear most often to help you prepare confidently for your trip.

Do I have to step in the ocean when I enter and exit my kayak?

Paddling is a watersport, so you will be getting up close and personal with the Pacific Ocean every day! If you are sensitive to the cold there are some strategies you can ask your guide about at our first meeting.

What is the group size of your trips?

Typically we find 6-8 people to be a sweet spot. We aim for a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 guests. Exceptions may be made if you are booking a custom trip.

What currency are your prices in?

All of our prices are listed in Canadian currency.

Do I need travel insurance if I’m from outside Canada?

If you are coming from outside Canada, travel insurance is highly encouraged though not requisite to booking a trip with us.

Can I register if I am a solo traveller?

Solo travellers are absolutely welcome to book a place on one of our flagship trips.

What level of fitness is required for your trips?

Some level of comfort and enjoyment of the ocean or water is a good idea. You definitely don’t need to be a bronze star swimmer, but the ability to tread water and swim a leisurely length of the pool is a good standard.

What should I bring?

You will receive a detailed packing list upon registration. Tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads will be provided, and all of our trips are fully catered. You will need to bring all your “wearables” such as activewear and synthetic or wool layers, sturdy footwear, a good rainjacket etcetera. If you have your own gear you would prefer to use, let us know in the pretrip preparations and we will make sure it meets our standards to keep you comfortable under coastal conditions.

Will I see Wildlife?

We can’t guarantee sightings of any specific animals as they move on their own terms. That said, we travel through rich coastal ecosystems inhabited by creatures of the depths, skies and earth. As we explore together, we’ll keep our eyes wide open, as the most magical of wildlife encounters occur when we can observe their natural behavioural patterns without interruption.

is it safe?

Safety is at the core of everything we do. Our guides hold current professional certifications in sea kayaking, wilderness first aid, and marine safety. Our trips are equipped with all of the industry-standard safety gear including Marine Radios, comprehensive first-aid kits and much more. Each expedition carefully around weather and tides, known hazards, and group abilities. There are a multitude of factors that go into the kind of decision-making guides do every day, and while some of it takes place behind the scenes, we are more than happy to answer our guests' questions about safety at the right time and place.

What will I eat?

Guides prepare nutritious, satisfying meals that support active days on the water. Expect hearty breakfasts, trail-ready lunches, and comforting dinners made with care:. Suffice it to say that our guests are often pleasantly surprised by the degree of gourmet made possible by the marvelous hull capacity of the sea kayaks. You will have opportunities to discuss any specific dietary restrictions during our pre-trip preparations, and we do our very best to accommodate dietary needs.
